One who is, if I am reading your comments correctly, letting her good opinion of feminism be ruined by the "baseless whining" of "sjws and tumblr."

Why, if I may?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
$10 says she doesn't bother replying to this

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not letting it ruin my good opinion of feminism in the past, but it sure is ruining my opinion of feminism now.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Why?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Because you're trying to change things I love for the worse.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
How has the dissatisfaction of people on the internet had deep and long-lasting effects on the media you choose to consume?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-29 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
it hasn't but obviously she can't tell u so

(Anonymous) 2013-09-29 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I said you're trying, not that you have succeeded.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-29 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I understand that. I simply fail to see how expressions of dissatisfaction, which are overwhelmingly the most common iterations of feminist media criticism on the internet, are equivalent to concrete, well-financed, popularly-backed attempts to change media, as you seem to be implying.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-29 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
It was some other anon that implied that tumblrfems are dictating what goes on with the media with their wallets, not I.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-29 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Then could you perhaps explain how these feminists are trying to change things you love for the worse, if not by "dictating what goes on with the media with their wallets"?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-29 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Mostly? Internet complaining and harrassing of fans and artists.
I can recall one instance where that worked, when Bioware decided to make Dragon Age 2 based on the critique of the 'progressives' on their forums. Needless to say, it was commercially a flop, and quite a terrible game also.

DA

A lot of games that are progressive and don't cater exclusively or primarily to men are a flop, sweetheart.

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2013-09-29 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
DA2 was just a horrible mess.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-29 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't say anything about harassment, but I'm sorry you'd let complaints about media on the Internet ruin your opinion of a huge movement that has done good things.

I would like to remind you that David Gaider is himself a 'progressive' (why the scare quotes?) who has spoken out about the misogyny and homophobia rampant in the gaming community. DA2 was a commercial flop and a terrible game not because it was progressive but because it was rushed through the development cycle. Full stop. If they had spent more than a mere year on it, it would have been a much better game. (And I say this as someone who never finished it because of immense dissatisfaction with certain spoiler events instigated by the only member of your party who can heal worth a damn.)

You know, this logic is the same we always get when there is a female-protagonist game that flops:

If the game is a flop and has a female character/progressive romances/etc. it flopped because of that.

If a male protagonist/generic "normal" romance including/same old, same old game is a flop, it's because of gameplay issues. Or annoying bugs. Or the graphics. Or countless of other reasons - not because it had a male MC or a het main romance.

DA2 wasn't a great game because, as someone else said, they rushed the development and used the same stupid textures/surroundings for every dungeon. Not because of some weird "feminists and evil progressive people are ruining my games" conspiracy theory.

Not to mention DA:O had gay romance options as well.

Remeber, the opinion of the anon above is SUPER IMPORTANT!!!!! If she's not having fun we should feel REALLY BAD!!!! Because her happiness is EVERYONE ELSE'S RESPONSIBILITY and she can't GO SOMEWHERE ELSE ON THE BIG WIDE INTERNET, OH NO!!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-09-29 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice of you to finally talk about yourself, there.
