I wish the mod of that community would get banned from promoting here and on LJ. That mod doesn't read community rules and posts that long RP graphic and blurb everywhere. That mod's even posted at

fandom_on_dw twice despite

amadi clearly stating only fannish things on DW are allowed in that comm.

And all this promo for a RP community that's on InsaneJournal. It's driving me mad.

what does it matter if it's on insanejournal? the advertising in non-game ad friendly comms is wrong, but it being on insanejournal isn't some big taboo against 'OMG only LJ and DW games can be advertised!'

Do you have to pay to join insanejournal?

no. it's free. it can have some down time issues and the menu/interface has a bit of a learning curve compared to compared to old LJ and DW. But you get 100 icons by default and you have a lot of control on the formatting of journals.

I know some people have issues with the terminology used on the site. their communities are called 'asylums' and tweak, the 'mascot' is pretty meh. But in general, it's just another journal site split from old LJ code and it does the same thing with friends lists and communities, etc.

No, this mod has been constantly promoting this RP here and on LJ multiple times in communities, often without the permission of the mods of those communities and without regard to the rules of those communities. And this mod's been doing it for weeks. I assure you, I'm not the only person pissed off that this mod doesn't care about anyone just for their off-site RP.

If the rules of a community don't allow promotions to be made without permission from the mods or that certain types of promotions can't be made in those comms, those rules should be honored.

I get the issue with the adverting on the wrong places and being obnoxious with it and doing it without permission. I have no issue with that and agree with you about it being just plain rude.

But you threw this in as the parting comment:

As if it being on Insanejournal was significant and part of the problem, implying by proxy that games on that site shouldn't have the 'gall' or w/e to advertise on LJ or DW. And I, personally, don't believe that should have any impact on how bad the mod's actions are. I don't believe it makes their actions any worse than they already are. It's not the 'icing' on the shit cake you implied it to be.

I never said the problem was InsaneJournal. I was saying this mod was doing all this obnoxious promotion for one RP community on InsaneJournal. I'm sorry I accidentally vilified InsaneJournal.

You're not being dragged into a flame war. I'm not calling you an ass or saying all your opinions are stupid and you should feel stupid or anything that actually matters to a flame war. I'm not even particularly aggravated by any of this (though my failure at coding would likely imply I am).

I was pointing out that your emphasis of it being on Insanejournal implied that being on that site was part of the problem and I wanted to know why that was. If it's not, then in the future, consider not bringing such emphasis to where the game is hosted, okay?

The way you use "game" makes me wonder if you're really as open minded as you think you are.

Though, from what I can tell that mod has been as obnoxious as hell with advertising everywhere.

A lot of game fandoms - Wow, FF, KH -- have plenty of RP / ERP activity. (Hell, make that a lot of fandoms in general).

This Children of Eden thing just doesn't seem like a a legit "fandom" to me, is what I meant. Not when it's put next to notices about DW and Yuletide and bingo challenges and so on.

(I must say, though, that now I'm resisting the urge to work in a Big Bang joke.)

P.S. Eh, trust me, I'm open-minded. It's just that even though I know that this thing could / will probably develop its own fandom, it still bugs me that it's poking in where I have no interest in seeing it.

It seems you're confused about something.

It's not a fandom. It's not trying to develop a fandom. It's a game. There's a difference. It's an Original Character orientated Roleplaying Game. It can still be a game without being a fandom.

This. I actually started rping original stuff, and there's rarely a fandom involved [actually, original rps tend to frown on using fandom characters] so...it's just a game. A legit game, that you happen to dislike.

I am into BDSM, but it still pisses me off to see that ad. I'm not interested in that kind of supernatural-themed online roleplaying or whatever you'd call this. If I wanted to see ads for RP communities, I'd follow an RP promo group instead of yuletide or fandom_on_dw.

I actually find the idea interesting, and if I did RP I might be tempted. Except that all the ads are obnoxious and showing up in places where they shouldn't, which instantly turns me off of even things I'd otherwise do.

Exactly. I'm a pretty serious RPer, heavily into vampires, but I've seen the ad pop up in places it shouldn't, which tells me things about how the game is run...

I am so sick of seeing this advertised everywhere over and over and over again. Even if I were interested the overselling and not listening to rules of communities would turn me off.

Think anyone has pointed this out to their mod? This secret that is- given people are agreeing with the sentiment.
