I get that might have been the original definition, but I don't think it really means that anymore. Drabbles are just really short fics today, and that's okay.

That's right, like haiku. Now it also means "a short poem written by someone who likes Japan".

Well, yeah, it is a big deal, because some people really like writing and reading stories of exactly 100 words for the challenge factor. It's a specific genre. And I'm not going to give up the word.

Language changes, sure, but words should become more specific and meaningful with use, not less. It's not an improvement, it's a dumbing-down and perpetuation of an inaccuracy. That's why it irks me.
