That promo pic kind of reminds me of Torchwood. (Maybe that's the reason why I'm not really interested in watching this show.)

Ha! When we were watching the first episode, my husband asked "so, is this an American version of Torchwood?" I said hopefully without aliens that kill through orgasm.

Thing is, just because of those promo pics I'm currently reluctantly rewatching Torchwood. Annoyed, but not really able to stop - it's like I have to check if I still love/hate the same things I loved/hated before.

I honestly thought that this was what the show is supposed to be, a type of "Marvel-centric American Torchwood". I was surprised this comparison didn't come up a lot more often. o.O

Oh, that was totally my reaction to the pilot. "Oh, it's Torchwood. Without as much suck."

(I am told Torchwood got better, but damn, that first series was just made entirely of pain.)

As I understand it, Torchwood was okay until S3/Miracle Day and then it just went spectacularly downhill.

And, I suppose maybe the "American Torchwood" comparison prevailed a bit too much, even if it wasn't stated directly. Looking at the other comments, I'm surprised at how many people are complaining about the "quirkiness" of the show when I assumed that was the point. I made the Torchwood comparison based on the whole "secret government team dealing with insane scifi anomalies in the context of the real, modern day world" but didn't account for the general darkness of the show, when AoS is comparatively light-hearted.
