I think I know what you're getting at, and I agree to a point - most people here are legit and who they say they are, but there's certain posters who are obvious trolls, not to mention those of us who are anonymous - for all I know you're on my flist, and I'd have no idea. That's not really friendship even though we might actually be friends on LJ.

But as far as people who aren't trolls or anons go, there's no reason to believe they're not really friends.

Oh absolutely. I've made plenty of online friends through DW or LJ, even in fan communities. But I've also made "friends" with troll accounts and I flat out know it's bullshit. They might be lovely people behind all the awful shit they pull "for the lulz", but the mask they're putting on is terrible. I will never trust a troll account again.
