I'm kinda wondering the same because my parents are in their 70s. They have trouble working their smartphones sometimes but they never kept me from being online or warned me away from internet people when I was a teen in the late 80s and early 90s. Most of my friendships have been online and they always thought it was cool that I talked to people in other countries. These days they'll ask if I'm talking about a work friend or an online friend if I tell them a story about a friend, but that's for context of the conversation.
