And leaving aside the question of what a drabble "really" is... if the challenge says to write a ficlet of exactly 100 words, that's what it is for the purposes of that challenge.

I find it incredibly irksome when someone writes a ficlet of 'whatever' # of words and submits it to a drabble challenge. The point of the challenge is that everyone in it crafts a ficlet of exactly 100 words. It's a DISCIPLINE, dammit. And if someone doesn't want to observe that discipline, fine, mate - just don't call your ficlet a drabble and submit it there.

If you were truly disciplined, you would invent your own characters and situations.
