I cringe when someone makes SF out to be some uber-intellectual. Please.

Except he is. Just about anyone familiar with him before QI could tell you that. He is incredibly intelligent, has impressive educational credentials, and has never stopped learning everything he can about a massive amount of things.

Er, no. He just seems that way to the gullible because he has really good self-promotion skills. So he went to Cambridge. Pfft. I went to Cambridge, and I didn't get an expensive public school ride courtesy of indulgent parents.

You do realise he didn't get a free ride all the way to Cambridge, right? He was expelled from several schools and only ended up in Cambridge on a scholarship after he came out of prison and studied at the local college.

I think Footlights helped him more than his parents.

Of all the things to accuse Stephen Fry of not being, I'm... not sure that's one of them...

I don't get it either. I think he may be one of the most overrated entertainers on the planet, but there are kind of mountains of evidence that he's intelligent and well-educated.

As are plenty of other people. He's really not nearly as special as people want to believe. Also, not that funny.
