I second this. The novel is good sci-fi and interesting. The movie is... well, it's Kubrick using a scifi plot to create weird imagery under the pretense of talking about mankind. Film-lovers will probably find it interesting to watch because visually it's a stunner.

Also a colleague told me it's fabulous to watch when stoned, which I know assume to be the main reason why it's so praised.

I really enjoyed the book. Of course that was when I was 14. Wonder if I would like it now.
