I once read a description of it allowing the viewer to experience the true tedium of space travel, so there is that! But yeah, it needs to be at least half an hour shorter. I feel pretentious as fuck saying this, but the book is better simply because STUFF KEEPS HAPPENING THROUGHOUT THE STORY. With the movie, you're just kind of... trapped there... for a very... long... time...

Anyway. There are some amazing, beautiful moments, yes, but just... oi, the pacing.
