Just watched this. I'm not blown away by it, but I love James Spader enough to keep watching for a few episodes. I hope they've got some interesting plot twists coming up to keep it interesting past a single season though. Unfortunately the writing's already sloppy/episodic, for instance in terms of what Red is and isn't allowed to do - after poisoning that woman there were no repercussions in terms of his deal and he was allowed to just chill on a dock? What? He might have immunity, but that's for his previous crimes NOT FOR FUTURE MURDERS HE PLANNED - so I'm not that optimistic about the tightness/originality of the plotting to come.

Another thing: what was the point of his female security agent who he kissed IF SHE WAS ONLY IN THAT SCENE AND THAT SCENE ONLY??? Couldn't they have introduced her in a later episode if she wasn't going to do anything this episode? Or did her scenes get replaced by the CIA agent's scenes? (Who, by the way, was badass. I like her.)

Oh, and another another thing: did Red hire The Freelancer or just a random assassin? Because if that really was The Freelancer, why did he agree to be the agent personally carrying out a single assassination when the whole point was that his usual method was engineering a mass accident that couldn't be linked to a single murder? And if it wasn't The Freelancer, then wouldn't the FBI be pissed that he lied about who they were going to catch? Like, I know it's entertainment and a TV show, but it's the 2nd episode and they've completely stepped out of any bounds of plausibility in terms of Red's deal.

Also, not that intrigued by his relationship with Liz or Liz's character in general - but I do want to know who her criminal father is (or the person she thinks is her father), what the deal with the scar is and why the FBI didn't pick up on her father's past.

Ack. I really want to like this but I think it needs to get better and more interesting fast for me to keep it up.
