I just don't get what the point is. Same characters should have the same personalities and such regardless of gender, as far as I'm concerned, so why should it be so important to swap pronouns?

Now, genderbend fan art? I love that. But that's because I love reinterpreting things as other things, exploring what-if scenarios and such. So "what would so and so look like as a girl?" is a lot more fun to me than "what would so and so act like as a girl?" (since for me, the answer would be "the same").

I mentioned it above, but I for sure agree that personalities would be the same, but I think the different experiences betweeen genders play into a character also, and there's room for really interesting things there.

For instance, I've long had a story idea on the back burner that isn't exactly a *gender* swap, but it plays with the idea of what Star Wars would be like if Luke were the Imperial Senator and Prince of Alderaan and Leia was a Tattooine farmgirl. I don't think we'd have the exact same story. But I definitely think it's a tightrope on doing right.

I would read that. I would read that so hard.

Oh god yes. Genderbend fanart is more fun than the fics.

I agree that characters are largely the same, but the appeal for me is looking at how the change in sex changes the way the other characters react to the character in question.
