Re: Genderbend fic
Fandom Example: Billa/Bilba/Bella Baggins would, presumably, have had a lot more pressure put on her to marry and have children than Bilbo did, simply because the pre-industrial psuedo-medieval society of Hobbits would put a lot of expectations like that on a woman. ME is still a fairly patriarchal world. Hobbits have fairly strict social standards. I want genderswap fics to show the effect of that.
The one part of always-been-the-opposite-gender fics is that when I hit the porn, I just can't feel it like I would for het fics for canonically gendered characters. The gender-swapped character, I got to know them as male (that's the usual for me), so all my mental process for them is for a male, so sex scenes where they have a vagina? Not quite doing it for me.
Someone else has said it, that fics where a male character gets turned female due to magic (or whatever) should not have him suddenly turn all girly.
I started reading a fic not long ago where Kili got turned into a girl and suddenly BAM! Everyone is treating him/her like she's suddenly some weak wilting flower that needs to be protected from the world. I didn't like it, especially considering the change was supposed to be temporary anyway.
Maybe it's just my reaction to what might be a realistic reaction in a psuedo-medieval society, but the way it was handled felt far too cheesy.
Oh, and the issues of reading porn for magically-tranformed genderbender? Same as always-a-different-sex genderswap. My mental process is for the male. I won't quite be able to accept het.
This is also part of the reason I don't like genderswap fics that swap both of the feature pairing to turn it into a femmeslash pairing.
