New fall US shows-inspired by the first secret

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
What are you loving?
What has been your biggest disappointment?

And for those not in the US, what new shows that are airing where you are would recommend to us, Americans? (Remember, with the power of the internet, nothing is obscure for long. Thank you, torrents!)

Sleepy Hollow was surprisingly good and so far I've loved it. S.H.I.E.L.D didn't really catch my interest, so I don't think that I'll keep watching. Same with Michael J. Fox's new show, but I'll give them another chance for one or two episodes.

As for your second (or third) question. Oh gods, nothing. I'm not watching them either.

Sleepy Hollow is awesome.

The new comedies suck.

Other than that I've watched anything new.

Have you tried Brooklyn Nine Nine? It's the only comedy I've watched this season that actually made me laugh.

I really like it. Loving Andre Braugher in it. He's so damn awesome.

What happened to comedy, anyway? The only comedy shows I really like anymore are The Mindy Project (which has a horrible title that makes it look about 10 times dumber than it actually is) and Parks and Recreation. I make fun of 90's comedy, but at least I actually enjoyed watching it. Now? Not so much.

My opinion on new fall shows is that Andre Braugher is amazing

Generally uninterested or unimpressed, but that's just me. I'm going to give Blacklist a few more episodes before I decide if I'll stick with it. I won't be watching past the pilots of Agents of SHIELD, Sleepy Hollow, Ironside or Brooklyn Nine Nine. Nothing else new has grabbed me so far. HOWEVER, I am hanging out for Almost Human in November because that looks like the right mix of sci fi and buddy cop genre show that I would eat up no matter its quality.

As for your second question, I'm Australian but the only Australian TV show I watch regularly besides the news is Gruen Planet (oh, and Q&A). I would definitely recommend Gruen though - it's not new, but it's a fun panel show where people in the advertising industry dissect trends in advertising and spin in an interesting and critical and enlightening way. It's also hilarious. Go watch it now!

Liking: Sleepy Hollow and Trophy Wife (but keep forgetting to watch the latter).

Feeling Meh About: Agents of Shield (still need to watch the second episode).

Didn't Like: The Michael J. Fox Show.

Planning on Watching Once it Airs: Almost Human

That's it for the new shows I've seen.

Not out in the US yet, but those with proxies can get the new BBC "Merlin" replacement Atlantis. Now its pilot episode actually has a plot and characters you cannot get mixed up with each other. Made a better debut than AoS even with the constraints of introducing a cast and a new world. Only really one blank character out of a regular cast of about eight so not bad. It'll be legally available on BBC America in about a month. Proxies can find it on the BBC on demand service though.

BUT ARE THERE TWO SEXY MEN IN AN ANTAGONISTIC FRIENDSHIP YOU CAN WRITE SEXUAL FICTION ABOUT????

No, seriously. That part is the most important reason to watch the show for me. I am immensely shallow and freely admit it.

No...but there is a cute geeky guy with a courageous heart under his geeky exterior and a heroic male with a winning smile and an impressive six pack who fall into being fast friends within an entire conversation. And the cute geeky guy gets to bandage the heroes wounds and take care of him when he is hurt. Honestly, I think the fanfic duties might have been taken up by the canon writers on this one. Our hero from the modern world even arrives in Atlantis stark naked too, waking up on beach (he's the ripped one).

Sleepy Hollow was a huge surprise to me, because I had absolutely no desire to see that story retold and yet when I saw it I was blown away by how much I enjoyed it. The characters, the storytelling, etc, it's just all good! And it's so pretty, too.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is cheesy and I realize and accept this, but I found myself really invested in the second episode and if future episodes are similar to that, then I'm going to have a lot of fun with this show. I'm looking forward to where they take the characters and seeing all the Marvel crossovers and references. (Also, the shipping. And Melinda May. I'd probably watch this show only for her, but other people are growing on me too.)

I did watch Michael J. Fox's new show last week, and found it pretty amusing, but I doubt I'll keep it up. I'm just not that interested.

I'm giving Sleepy Hollow some time to brew. It's a hot mess of nonsense, but then again, so was Washington Irving (who may have been responsible for the Columbus myth.)

Loving: Sleepy Hollow (the characters are fantastic, the timely and spooky atmosphere is awesome, love the setting, etc)
Disappointing: Blacklist (I *love* James Spader and Parminder Nagra, but it's swiss cheese in the plot dept)
