Ooh, hey, I own that book!

That's all I have to say, except I also think it would be interesting to know. Maybe I'll go check that book right now and see if it says anything about addiction recovery at the tine.

Well....it's not really meant to be a serious historical document. I did come out of it shipping Holmes/Freud a little, though.

Fandom makes me believe sex. But idk.

That's probably what happened. Magical Healing Cock solves everything!

H/W writers have a lot of theories. Mostly involving things that are not needles being stuck into other places than forearms...

I've read a lot of slashfic where either getting together with Watson solved the whole "my mind rebels against stagnation" problem, or where Watson finally threatened to leave him unless he gave it up.

I've also read a couple of darkfics where Holmes would only give up cocaine if Watson put out for him. Which, given the canonical end of The Sign Of Four, is actually not that OOC.

I've also seen the idea Holmes got genuinely addicted to it (as opposed to using it in an unhealthy but still recreational fashion) during the three years of hiding from Moriarty's circle, and Watson begged/browbeat/out-deduced him into recognizing he had a problem with it and allowing Watson to help him kick the habit.

Oddly enough, I don't think I've ever read a fic where Holmes willingly approaches Watson to ask him for help getting clean, though.

Holmes's too arogant to ask for help, imo.

I've always kind of theorized that after the Hiatus, Watson was so much more afraid of losing Holmes that he became a lot more forceful in his warnings. Like, maybe he threatened to walk out and never see Holmes again if he didn't let Watson help him quit.

Somehow, I can't really see Holmes deciding that he might not be perfectly in control of his health as long as he took it irregularly enough to not get seriously addicted. And he'd totally be the type who would always be careful enough to not overdose.

(I would LOVE recs for good withdrawal-fics, btw. Anyone?)

I know I've read a fic where Watson essentially whores himself to Holmes to keep Holmes from falling into those black moods that make go for the cocaine.

However, it was one of those fics. You know the type. The type where everything is framed in the context of "d'awww, look how important they are to each other!" and the author is either too young, too oblivious, or too deluded to even consider the situation to be dubcon or emotionally abusive, let alone warn for it.

I always kinda thought The Seven Per-Cent Solution was kind of dumb. Not just in a tongue-in-cheek way, but just plain dumb.

I found the movie dull. I've been meaning to get around to reading the book because people act like it's THE Sherlock Holmes pastiche and I like Meyer's Star Trek work, but...

I've not seen the movie, but the book's a lot of fun, IMO.

It's a guilty pleasure. I only like it for the h/c.
