I was actually in HP fandom when most of that happened. Sorry, I should have been more specific! But that was all a decade ago, and none of that points to sociopathy or her original work being written by someone else.

That's because there isn't any evidence of either. From all accounts, she's not a very nice person and was something of a "queen bee" back in the day (I was also in HP fandom at the time she was at her height) but she's not a sociopath nor did she plagiarize in her public works.

You know I'm revising my original opinion (that the hate bandwagon is satisfying and makes them feel like fandom wank is some epic RL drama they have Special Knowledge about) to wonder if people hate on her because she represents things about fandom that they're ashamed of being seen by a wider audience...

Actually, I think a lot of people just have a plagiarism button. She plagiarized once (several hundred times) and then she was an ass about it--fandom holds grudges for a long time, especially when it comes to writing.

You're probably right, it was just sooo long ago... and we've had people randomly say that she plagiarized her own series or that she had someone else write it for her. Maybe those are just trolls.

I think it was a combination of the plagiarism, the denials and the non-apologies (not even counting her Queen Bee behaviour in the mix). If she'd apologized long long ago when it first happened, it would have defused things. But she didn't, and yes, fandom has a long memory.
