Not at all. She did plagiarize with her fanfiction. Just because it wasn't official publishing doesn't mean it was a-okay. What pisses people off is that she never apologized, and to add insult to injury, she pulled her fanfic, rewrote it (without the stolen parts), and made loads of money off of it.

It's basically seeing someone become hugely successful by shady means. This kind of behaviour SHOULD be criticized. It's not "HP fanfic wank".

It's not a-okay, but it's fanfiction and it's hard for me to keep a grudge over it.

Fanfiction just isn't serious business. And that's okay. We can like plenty of things that aren't serious business. We have a whole thread on Night Vale.

The reason plagiarism is bad isn't the money. It's the fact that someone is gaining credit for your ideas. Making it about money is just... depressing. It's still just as bad if it makes no money, but is seen by plenty, which CC's fanfiction was. She stole ideas and passed them as her own. That's still horrible, whether it was published (i.e. making money) or not.
