One of my writing workshops was conducted by a professor who ridiculed a student for bringing the beginning of a fantasy novel to class, and announced that we were not in his workshop to learn to write [insert sneer of distaste] genre fiction. Only Literary short stories were allowed. I smile whenever I see his two slender volumes of indisputably Literary fiction which nobody ever reads.
