Just remember, someone had to read the original story in order for there to be fic of it in the first place. There's still a market out there for original fiction, and there can't NOT be one so long as fiction itself exists.

I think the OP's point is more that they don't have anyone to share that thrill with. Which I completely understand, having been there myself.

Personally, I would be much more interested in reading a friend's original fiction than fanfiction. So don't lose hope, OP! Just because your specific group of friends only reads fanfics doesn't mean everyone is like that.
