Yes, what business is it of theirs if their friend is a homophobe? Let's leave the homophobes alone and hope that time will change their opinions. After all, having a right to have an opinion means you should never be confronted about it, or even forced to deal with someone with different opinons.

I think in a situation where the friend isn't confirmed to be a homophobe and hasn't said anything actually homophobic, and OP is fretting about the mere possibility of it.....then yes, minding your own biz rather than turning to immediate accusations is a rational thing to do.
