Oh, but he is described as "dark, delicate-skinned" and the morons in question are too stupid to hear the obvious comma and think he's saying dark(skinned), delicate -skinned.

I agree that there is no reason Carlos isn't a POC, but insisting that anything above ebony is too light is bullshit (and racist, because it erases all POC who aren't black).

lmao see this is why it gets so heated. I'm a moron because when Cecil said "dark, deicate-skinned" I thought he was talking about skin color?

Never mind, this was a kneejerk reaction on my part. Sorry.

I keep having foot-in-mouth troubles lately:

It's not that everyone who interpreted it that way is a moron, it's just the people who insist that this is absolutely the only way to interpret that sentence.

I, uh, don't think there was a comma there.

I think Carlos is tan. He's in the southwest, his name is Carlos. Otherwise dark doesn't really make sense. He's not dark in demeanor--at least he certainly didn't seem at all so in his telephone messages.

For fuck's sake, people get so angry at the sjws that they get weird

"Dark" can refer to a lot of things when applied to a person, up to and including a light-skinned person with dark hair. I don't think his location is relevant because he's not from around there. I see him as dark-skinned myself, but I don't think we can say it's the only way to picture him based on canon.

For the record I accept a really wide variety of tans and I'm not angry at people who draw him as white. I just think it's funny that people jump on the implied comma. NO THEY JUST MEAN HE'S ~DARK~ and I'm like did you even listen to him

(Anonymous) 2013-10-06 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm more annoyed that people only have that single sentence to fall back to when they go around judging fanart of Carlos (where he is very obviously depicted as a POC) for being not ~dark~ enough. Especially with those who keep insisting it's "colorist" to not depict Carlos as super dark skinned and thus, it's also racist.

Yeah, it's hilarious. Apparently Carlos is a Drow.

actually, I think I'm going to use that in the future. Call pepole racist fr assuming carlos is human.
starphotographs: ...I'm not that bad, though. And I don't even light things on fire! Well, not regularly... (Izaya (devious))

Apparently Carlos is a Drow.

...I laughed. XD

He could be. Now we all need to hope he appeased Lolth and won't turn into a Drider.

*snoop around the internet* Oh wait, Lolth is dead. Nevermind! Carlos is safe...ish. But it also says being a Drider is a blessing now. Oh what the fuck. I am too nerdy to make a joke about Drows. I just end up spouting facts and end up confused by the latest versions. This is a sad moment for me.

Ohgoodlord. I want that to happen now. Someone make that happen.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-07 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
But don't Drow have white hair?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-07 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously he dyes it.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Though he's also described as having black hair, and it's really rare for white people to have truly black hair. In my mind, Carlos is Hispanic, but it's not like canon or anything. But then, I just listen, and try to stay away from fandom, lol.

it's really rare for white people to have truly black hair
...Have you informed the black-haired Irish that they don't exist? Or the Eastern Europeans?

And FYI, Hispanics aren't the only ones with 'truly black hair.'

(Anonymous) 2013-10-07 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
This. My dad is white [German/French descent], but his hair? Truly black. His father's hair? Also truly black, and he's purely German descent [at least,as far as we can tell, and we know the family tree pretty far back].

Black hair isn't something that's as rare for a white person to have as you think it is.

+1

My dad is of German/English descent and when he was younger, his hair was truly black too.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-07 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
IA. I mean, my dad's 1/2 Mexican and he's waaaaaaaaay lighter than most of the Carloses I've seen. Not to mention, his name is Hispanic in origin but no name is only used in certain ethnic groups. There's no reason he couldn't be black, Spanish, or Korean-American. This opinion has nothing to do with the fact that I cannot imagine him as anything BUT Indian (as in India).

I like black or Asian Cecil, personally, but again, there's no reason he couldn't be any other race (and since he comes from Night Vale, he might not belong to the HUMAN race).

You see him as Indian too, huh? :D
