Yeah, that's a stretch. Lots of the words we use have unsavory roots. When it's so far from the source that the vast majority of people no longer even know what it once meant, I don't think it's really a huge problem anymore.
Yes, if you're saying "she's just being hysterical" in a context obviously meant to imply that she was crazy because WIMMIN, that's one thing, but it's so far removed from the other meaning...
