But why can't we have both? It's interesting to know if movies reflect the fact that women usually have female friends, sisters, mothers... and we talk between us about lots of things.

OP here.

I do not think the Bechdel test can't exist. It's just that, to me, it has never really been a good qualifier for anything...except the fact that two women talked. I have seen media with female characters that I adored, that did not pass the test. I have seen media that DID pass the test that made me cringe. To me, having media that has at least one woman with an interesting personal arc is FAR more indicative of having potential for a character I can look up to than the Bechdel test.
