They haven't executed it at all, yet. Well or poorly. The subplot has been set up, but has not yet been put into play. If you don't like what they do once they do it, fine. If you think the set up was lame, also fine. But complaining about something being bad before that thing even exists is an awfully unfair standard.

Sadly, complaining about something being bad before it exists is pretty much fandom's standard MO. Consider me unsurprised it applies here too. *shrugs*
