I think it's less about people pointing it out to you, and more about the brainspace you personally devote to it. At least that's how it seems like people are answering.

I wonder why people are answering like that? Was the main post unclear? This is like my biggest fear of talking to people: being thoroughly misunderstood.

I think it's because it's phrased as "something you thought about" rather then "something you were aware of," so that part of the question is what's sticking with people. But mostly, I think it's just one of those questions that has a few different ways you can answer.
