SPN is a long exercise in great build-up that fails to go anywhere, lousy build-up that fails to go anywhere either, and romantic relationships that are just downright flat.

A canon Destiel relationship would not get any different treatment, and would have added bonus cheesy homosexual tropes added in.

Now that I think about it (and considering I'm not actively in the fandom any more), it'd be amusing as hell to see how much the fans would scream and whine.
