Well, to be fair, I think a lot of people were originally disappointed because the concept art of Frozen looked very promising and the first drafts of the story stuck close to The Snow Queen. Now we have a talking snowman, and characters which are a bit too similar to Tangled's early sketches to really feel new and original. The promo Disney is doing is probably not helping: you have the French/Japanese trailers, with emphasis on the sisters, mystery and powers, and the US trailer, with a lot of slapstick humour.

That said, other people have pointed out, without accusations of white-washing, that Disney *could* have used another setting. It's a Scandinavian story, but it's so far off the original that it could have taken place anywhere in the world. They didn't take a chance, and many people are disappointed with that.

...I think they'd still need the snow.

In the film, at least in the trailers we've seen so far, it's the evil sister who's making it snow, not the weather.

Yeah, but if the story was in some hot ass place in Africa (which is probably the only place the SJW's would be happy with) it'd be a lot of people just freezing to death having nothing prepared for the sudden change in temperature and environment.

You need a place with people that know how to deal with it. That suggests you need to go north.

Granted, you could have, say, an Inuit version or something. But when folks say "well why not a poc version?" well, why not go with the original setting?

Princess and the Frog had a reason better then diversity. They wanted a theme. New Orleans culture was injected into that movie in it's themes, it's appearance, and most definitely it's music, so there you go.
