I don't think he ever had the intention of following through, but I hate the idea of threatening children (or public shaming) as discipline.

ITA - can't agree enough! Disciplining children doesn't have to involve an assault on their bodily autonomy. And I'm glad it never went any farther, even though it sounds horrible as it was.
