this looks like it's from the late 90s/early 00s based on that artstyle ._o

(Anonymous) 2013-10-10 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
that's what they were aiming for, it's supposed to be a callback to shows from that era.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-10 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I thought that was more of Trigger/Old Gainax in general? Gurren Lagann and Little Witch Academia look a lot like that too.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-10 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, the style and themes are borrowing from early 80's anime actually.

I also thought of the late 90s because it looked hand-animated, which blew my mind (AFAIK, it is, too).

Fun things are fun, and KlK is one of the funniest shows I've seen. Everybody is loving it, stop being embarrased, mann/woman up and enjoy it.

Aww yeah, Kill la Kill!

And you're in luck, OP, because unlike most anime, Kill la Kill has a fairly sizable fandom and it's two-cour. Just look for places where people are discussing it; anime forums or tumblr might be a good start.

Please please please dive right in and have fun. Fuck the fanservice, I'm a guy and I can easily just ignore the fanservice in favor of the absolute ridiculous high-energy big-action this show REALLY offers. Is it catered towards guys? Whatever, who cares? This ain't no secret club with a "NO GURLZ ALOUD" sign! Please feel more than welcome to enjoy yourself! The show literally just started, the second episode airs tomorrow, get in now and you'll be fanning out with everyone within the hour!

Obviously catered to guys? I think they're clearly catering to female audiences as well. The show has several attractive dude characters and I bet they'll be stripped ass-naked all the same once Ryuuko beats the shit out of them.

No, they are not catering to the female audience at all, even though you could say the first episode had as much male nudity as female.

The first episode was really great, and unlike the first episode of Attack on Titan, it left me eager to watch the next episode, but I'm going to wait until the story progresses more to watch. Kill la Kill reminded me of Tenjou Tenge, which also had a great couple of episodes before it fell apart. Also, I probably will want to skip the episode with all the loli fanservice.

>not catering to the female audience at all

You realize this is the same team that created Gurren Lagann, right? Those guys love boobs but they're absolutely aware of female viewers too. Hell, even a GL artbook was released that featured male characters only.

let us also not forget the episode that featured simon and viral brawling while wearing nothing but very tiny towels.

If it picks up some fujoshi like Gurren Lagann did, they might throw in something for them, but that's just a bonus, they don't care about the female audience any more than swimming anime cared about the male audience.

Wrong. The Starter Book had a couple of illustrations with sexualized male characters. Attractive male characters, not ugly boys like the boxing guy. They care about the female viewers. Girls are not their main target, but they will thrown them a bone now and then.
