Slight spoilers for yesterday's episode

[personal profile] hwc 2013-10-09 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I jave to say, the last ep was really good for her. The show seems to be picking up as a whole, but it's really obvious in her case. (Ward too, but less so than Skye.)

Now if the next episode could make the science twins (especially him) more likeable I for one will be happy with the whole team. Though there really need to be more May now that she's officially back in combat.

I agree. And since you've already warned for spoilers, I'm fixing to drop a bigger one, because the hand, at the end? It was only when I saw that that I realized I'd just watched an origin story. Because the episode was a good story in its own right. Everything just clicked a lot better this time around, I think.

But, yeah, the science twins need some more screen time soon, because right now they're just sort of...there. And smart.

Oh I knew as soon as they said "we need a catalyst" what was gonna go down. But I do read a lot of comics. :P

Oh, okay, tangent. That part did annoy me. I know it worked, but Coulson had no reason to make the assumption that it would. I think his more logical move there would've been to shoot gravity guy instead of the wall. I know this is primetime and all, but the lengths this show is going to to keep the agents from killing anybody onscreen (like May kicking that guy in the head last week instead of breaking his neck) are already starting to get ridiculous.

Coulson pretty definitively thought he was killing that guy. I think "make it so they fall into a localized gravitational anomaly" counts.

I've got no issue with his decision to kill the guy. Dr. Hill was crazy and needed to go down. My problem is that Coulson didn't know how the localized gravitational anomaly would react to having a human being tossed into it. He did know how a human body would react to having high speed metal projectiles tossed into it. At which point the Science Twins could give him suggestions for a catalyst without his needing to worry that Hill would try to stop him.

Also, while deliberately dropping this dude into a science McGuffin is a morally equivalent action to shooting him in-universe, it plays differently out-of-universe to having Coulson just shoot him in the head. And out-of-universe, it's starting to look like the rationale is Don't Let Main Characters Directly Kill Anybody Onscreen. Which is lame.

Also your wrong?

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-10-10 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Agent Coulson was clearly seen shooting in Peru in episode 2. The people he shot fell down.

Now granted, we didn't get folks checking their pulses. but in one case he shoots a man at very close range who falls over and does not get up, so...

...What about my wrong?

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm still not convinced, but I'll grant you make a fair point. We'll see more as the show unfolds.

Perhaps there's an exception for anonymous mooks, who can be recycled with a change in wardrobe and a different ski mask.

Yeah, I think there's a difference to a main character vaguely killing a mook (after all it's just BAM! *mook falls down*) and a main character point-black killing a named character, even if said character was only there for one episode.

I thought he was gonna throw the bottle of alcohol tbh

jeez, possibly-robot-and-or-undead!Coulson sure has issues to leap to involuntary human sacrifice first!

agreed

each episode has been better than the last and it is beautiful

let's hope the trend continues
