Why don't you go and chill with her? Maybe it could be a bonding experience.

No, I'm not trolling. God knows I'd love to do that with my mom. But she only tried weed once (15 years ago, I was 10 years old) and how-do-you-say-it "se fué en la pálida", had a bad trip? And swore she'd never try it again. Which is a pity: She's become more and more conservative and straight-edge with time. Nowadays, she doesn't even drink except the rare occasions she'll have a pisco sour before a meal when we go to a restaurant. I'd love to have a drink with my mom or share a hit or two in a bong.

Since she strongly associates marijuana with that awful episode, she kind of hates the smell and deeply dislikes it when my brother or I get home smelling like weed :/ (Which, given her dislike of it, and our dislike of domestic problems, we only do once in a blue moon).

Yeah. I often wonder what would have happened if she had reacted to THC in a more "normal" way. She was 30 at that time and her mind was still much more open than it is today. But the weed she took a hit from (this was at the house of some friends of my dad, and they hadn't divorced yet) was too strong and she couldn't handle it. Spent several hours curled up, nauseated, sweating cold.

I really love my mom, but she's a terrible, terrible workaholic, really antisocial, and doesn't know how to wind down except by taking a nap when she can, on weekends. Going out? Why would she ever do that? Her home is all she needs, really.

She has become a control-freak like you wouldn't believe :( So the idea of taking anything that could mess with her moods is a big NO for her. This includes antidepressant medication, which she actually got prescribed to her one time she got so sick she actually had to spend a week in bed. (It was stress-related, and messed big time with her digestive system). Once she googled them up and realized they were antidepressants, she NEVER went near the pills again. Because pills are for pussies that don't know how to handle life. (You might imagine how that made me feel, I had to be on meds for years).

She wasn't always like this, though. When she was 33-34, we'd go to pubs to hear live music and she'd have a margarita or something, and we'd have a merry time. I was so looking forward to being legal and able to go out with her for drinks :( Alas, it was not to be.
