Well, the new book came out and it turns out that Nico Di Angelo is gay. He also has a crush on Percy. I think that's kind of interesting, since he's never been shown to like anyone (From what I can remember, it's been a while) so it's not that out of nowhere it turned out to be men. Some fans are upset about it, but from what I saw of the comments/reviews, they're almost all teenage girls. So, more to do with him being the fandom woobie/dark mysterious one, I guess.

If they specifically want to fuck him, it can be seen as a bad thing.

What Noodles said. From what I could see, they're the "Oh, no, he can't be gay! If he's gay, he wouldn't take me to prom!" type of stuff

Then there's also the 'concerned' mothers that can't let their children read the book because it has 'homosexual stuff' in it. Human devouring spiders, children being skewered, a girl and her mother being suffocated to death under dirt, a baby being shoved in a fire? A-Okay. One character turns out to be gay and struggling with his identity=Oh my god, NC-17.

Well, of course. They don't need to worry that reading about human-devouring spiders is going to turn their own children into human-devouring spiders, after all.

Wait wait hold up which Percy Jackson series is this? Is it the other Camp Half Blood one (I thought that was about new characters?) or an actual sixth book in the original series?

Um wow I didn't know these characters were still being written about... I wasn't the biggest fan of the books and haven't read anything Riordan wrote after Last Olympian, but I loved Nico so I think I need to find this. (The only reason I would be upset is if it were written offensively badly, but I don't suppose that's why the fans you're talking about are upset.)

The Olympian series, and while there are new characters, the old characters are there, too. The second book of the series "Son of Neptune" is about Percy speficially. Mark of Athena is about something Annabeth has to do. And the new book, House of Hades, has Nico in it. Percy and Annabeth are also part of the group of demigods that must stop Gaia from awakening. There's also Rachel, Nico, Thalia, Grover, Tyson, etc.

They're just upset that he's gay. Nico had to admit that he had a crush on percy in front of Cupid and Jason. It's something that he doesn't want to feel, but he can't help it. He's been struggling with it. (And hey, he's sixteen and the son of Hades, that's to be understandable.:p)
