Actually, since it seems like the show broadcasts at night, it isn't that much of a stretch that he would wear one to work. When there isn't a lot of moisture in the air, it can get chilly after sundown.

do you live in a city?

I sort of do, but it doesn't get too cold in the desert here unless you go away from any and all buildings (like even homes) and it's winter.
