I live in AZ, it does not get that cold at night. I'm not saying it might not in less rural areas, but I think that's mostly an urban myth. Plus who says he's reporting at night?

He clearly says "Good Night" at the end of each broadcast.

We've got the Atacama desert here at the north, and while the area near the coast has less drastic temperature changes, the further you go inside and near the Andes, the colder it gets at night. Even if it was +40°C on the day, at night is FREEZING COLD.

Since it doesn't seem that Night Vale is near any body of water that might help regulate temperatures, I've got no problem with the sweater vest.

That has to do with elevation too, though right? I mean I'm not saying it CAN'T BE, I'm just saying it doesn't fly with me personally because where I live it gets too hot to wear sweater vests at night so it doesn't feel like an accurate representation of a small desert town.

Plus he's on a radio program why would he dress up? No one seems him and he's made no indication. It just feels like people want him to look like a certain hipster headcanon which includes sweater vests.

He says goodnight like he's signing off for a broadcast? I mean it doesn't mean it's necessarily in the evening? I assumed it was throughout the day and he got off for the evening. Since he's the main news and does "traffic". Then again applying logic to Night Vale is a tricky thing indeed!

Popular theory also is that Station Management makes the temperature freezing cold inside the station. Day or night, if the A/C is on sub-arctic, you're gonna wear something warm.

NVCR seems to be in a weird place between community-funded and network if the wiki is to be believed. Therefore, some degree of creative business casual seems reasonable, since the job might involve interviewing someone in the studio, getting interviews outside of the studio, or even just holding down the reception desk for a few hours.

Some people just like dressing up. Some people like making an effort for their jobs when they don't particularly have to. Cecil seems like the type to take things Very Seriously even when he doesn't have to.
