Volleyball! It's the reason why I and a surprising amount of people both male and female got into the sport. The German title was Mila Superstar, though everyone remembers it only as Mila. The Wikipedia article doesn't make it clear whether or not it was ever broadcast in North America or Great Britain, but Attack No. 1 is the name of the article.

It's a shoujo anime about a high school girl named Mila (Kozue in the original, they renamed her in the German dub) and her dream of becoming a world renowned Volleyball star.

That could be why I don't know it. If it never aired here, or was a direct to video release, I may have missed it. Sounds interesting!
