According to another SGA actor I talked to at a con, Rainbow Sun Francks was reduced to recurring because he kept on turning up late for work in season one.

And in season two the same thing happened, so they dropped Ford completely (except for that brief cameo)

Oh my. I didn't know that. I can completely understand why they shelved his character if that was the case, but annoyed that the actor screwed up the character for us.
