I hate strawberries. Every strawberry I have ever had was sour.

They trick me every time. I get excited only to be filled with sour and recall that I actually don't like strawberries at all.

That's me and blueberries! Blueberries plain = meh, blueberries + sugar = holy crap delicious.

I never cared much for them until I had a blueberry pie for the first time, and then I realized the amazingness of sweetened blueberrys :3

I love blueberry muffins, but I can't stand them on their own. But I really hate things that are "blueberry flavoured" - but those don't really have anything to do with real blueberries anyway.

I've never had a sour strawberry. Either I'm doing it wrong or you're eating some shitty strawberries.

(I'd totally eat a sour strawberry, though -- I love sour food)

Maybe you aren't letting them sit and ripen enough?

You can generally gauge the sweetness of a strawberry by its color. The darker they are, particularly the insides, the less tart they'll be.

I mean, I have eaten strawberries from the same batch my friends/family have had and they call them sweet. But I eat them and just...blech.

Every person is sensitive to different flavours. I'm very sensitive to sour food while loving salty food. A friend of mine has a high tolerance for sour food but a very low tolerance for food. Taste works differently for everyone.

Strawberries don't ripen when they sit.

And I gauge the ripeness of strawberries by their smell. Provided none of the berries in the box are bruised, a box of strawberries with good color that exudes that strawberry perfume will probably taste good.

I can't remember how the fuck it's called in English (or Spanish, for the matter), but here we bring them to a brief boil in just enough water to cover them, with sugar and cinnamon. The juice gets all syrup-y and caramelized; and they're damn delicious. Even better if you add a spoonful of heavy cream.

I only like them in strawberry shortcake. When they're alone, they suck.

That's why I smother them in chocolate. The sour goes well with chocolate, and the texture works better with chocolate than most other dip-able fruits. Bananas and apples are okay, but strawberries are the best.
