I kind of understand where you're coming from? My last name comes from my paternal grandfather who was abusive physically, mentally, and sexually, and I've always wondered if keeping the last name was worth it (we also have a WWII hero with the same last name in my background), or if I should change my name to something else.

Are you in a place where changing your name (eventually) would be legally possible/something you'd want to persue?
