Re: Unpopular opinion thread

Oh, I have so many unpopular opinions:

In many cases, I don't give a shit about "character development." If the character is already interesting and entertaining at the start, then let them stay that way. I don't need to see characters "grow" and "change."

Often, I think the makers of the show will *tell* you that what you're seeing is "growth" and "development", when it's really just arbitrary changes, or just the inevitable shark-jumping that comes with a long-running TV series. I am sick and tired of hearing about characters "growing" and "developing", when what that really means is "we're going to take a character you loved and change them beyond recognition until nothing remains of what originally made them appealing in the first place."

I think we've all known people IRL who never "grew" or "developed" one whit. Why should fictional characters be held to a higher standard?

Related to the above, I prefer stories that are plot-driven, not so much character-driven. That seems to be falling out of favor, lately, in a big way.

I actually miss the concept of a TV series where each episode is more or less self-contained and the episodes can be watched in any order and there are no "story arcs" or cliff-hangers.

Comedies, especially, do not need "story arcs" or cliff-hangers.

Related to all of the above, no TV series should last for more than four or five seasons, max. Shark-jumping could greatly reduced, if only people knew when to call it quits.

On a non-fandom note, I love frosted lipstick and IDGAF :P

I kind of agree about character development. If I love a character, I usually don't want to see them change. But on the other hand, I kind of enjoy it when something happens to them and it actually impacts them in a lasting way (like it would a real person).
