"and websites that carry the necklace." <--- a phrase which would indicate that yes the poster directly linked their mother to the place where they could buy the necklace. Please read the secrets more carefully before insulting people?

More importantly thought, what kind of parent is so unaware of their child's allergies that they get them a piece of jewelry that they are allergic to as a gift? If I knew my kid was allergic to wool I wouldn't get them wool socks, why is it a minor offense then to get someone allergic to nickle jewelery made of nickle?

Metal allergies don't always just give people 'rashes', they can cause skin reactions that require prescription strength steroid medications to get rid of which is both painful and - if you don't have really good coverage - fucking expensive in it's own right.

Perhaps it's lame to complain about not getting what you want for Christmas on F_S of all places but don't treat the OP like she's a complete ass for being disappointed that she didn't get what she wanted when she asked for it so specifically. (Probably after being asked what she wanted to get for the holiday in the first place.)

In all honesty, I'd have to agree with people who think that this particular secret is a bit much.

Okay, granted, it's a little odd that the mother bought something which the daughter was allergic to, but thinking about jewelry like this, it's extremely hard to get high-quality imitation jewelry without spending a fuckton out of one's own pocket. Besides, a lot of websites that do sell imitation jewelry don't list what the jewelry is made out of.

Goodness knows that at least the mom tried. If I asked my mom for something like that, she'd just laugh.

I know. This secret actually made me cringe a little. She tried. I agree about not knowing that the girl was allergic, but even then - sometimes parents don't realize.

Damn, when I want something specific, I save money and get it myself. I don't expect people to buy things for me. And if it's too expensive I say "oh well" and move on with my life.

I have a nickel allergy, and I have good parents, and HOLY FUCKING SHIT sometimes they forget I can't even wear gold- or silver-plated jewelry as long as there is trace nickel in it. Also for what it's worth, the majority of nickel reactions don't require steroids or anything of the sort. And it doesn't hurt, it just itches like fuck.

I have a friend who's nickel allergy IS that severe, unfortunately for her. Same with aluminum. The prescriptions she's hard to deal with reactions are insane. So, sorry if I sounded over reactey, just every time I hear about metal allergies my initial frame of reference is Adri covered in hives cause she got the wrong kind of belt buckle.
