True enough, but if you had tried to sway your roommate from her decision back then it probably would have been impossible to convince her not to do what she did. =/ For certain the idea of the experience is very different than the reality, but I tend to be of the opinion that big mistakes can be the biggest teachers. (Which is not to say that they can't also ruin your life if you're not really careful, but they have value.)

If the OP is young she's got alot of time to plan and decide, she may change her mind entirely (like I did when I took a trip out to the other side of the country and decided that moving that far was not for me).

Again, She can't know the enormity until she experiences it... but she can at least consider the advice of people who've been through it. Judging by her responses, though, she doesn't seem mature enough to do so.

Just because it's an enormous change doesn't mean it will necessarily be a bad one for this individual. Clearly you think it's a bad idea that she will regret. Your opinion. I disagree, that's all.
