I never knew she was a Republican, but I do recall an interview in which she said she didn't discuss her political views because a. they were her own business, and b. that she didn't like the idea of people making decisions/not making decisions on her own personal beliefs. Then she added that she DID support stem cell research, and that she felt strongly enough about that to say so.

This was ages ago, so things may have changed, but she seemed to have a pretty classy attitude about the whole thing.
