Hmm, even then I think that's arguable.
I mean, we had a friggin' history teacher back in high-school who was a member of the biggest extreme right-wing rascist party we had in Germany back then (right-wing here meaning something a liiittle bit different here than in the US).
And yes, that raised some eyebrows and got comments but according to my friends who took his advanced courses he actually was quite a good teacher, never let anything slip, in a school that was really left-leaning, although apparently he got through the period of nazi-germany a little bit faster than other teachers.
So, as long as you don't let your political ideas influence your work performance and professional demeanor, think what you want to?
