On AO3? I don't understand how you can say you are wading thru pages of knotting fics unless you search termed "knot". I ENJOY knotting fic and I sure as hell am not finding it every where in my fandoms. Not even Teen Wolf.

Sherlock TV, sort by hits and prepare to wade through pages of knotting fics.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-13 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
OT but I wish there was a way to sort by a kudos/hits ratio
Also I tried this with my fandom and I'm relieved as there are only two A/B/O fics in the first page

You can search by kudos or by hits, just not both. (though in my fandoms, they tend to be a fairly similar ratio)

Just did. Sherlock (TV), Completed Stories, and English Language. Out of the first 20 pages (200 fics) there were 20 fics with a knotting tag. So one per page. So...no. That is not true at all. Are you searching the term "Alpha/Omega"??

Just did Teen Wolf (same parameters) there were 17 knotting fics out of 100. 17.

11 out of the top 100 seems like a lot to me, especially when the source material has no supernatural elements. If omegaverse fics are 10%, that makes them more popular on AO3 than all of the rare pairs combined.

The Supernatural tag is full of it. I hate it.

LOL.

under other tags type -knotting

I could do without the plethora of alpha/omega and slave-verse that seems to crop up in Avengers fandom.

Mostly, I just think it would be great if there were a way to search for results without ____ tag.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-14 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
You can. In the tag field, type "-knotting" (or slave, or whatever else it is you're trying to avoid). I have a few hard nos that come up pretty commonly in my fandoms, and that lets me filter most of them out.

oh I read that as knitting AUs :(

I would so read an Avengers knitting AU.

Knitting is not even AU in my fandom, though I'm not really a supporter of the main pairing. I prefer to read Dwalin with Nori instead.
