Yeah... I think most people do. I'm not sure why this is a secret? Hell, I'm gay myself and I assume any TV character to be straight unless explicitly stated otherwise (and 99% of the time I'm proved to be right because even in this day and age TV shows are hardly teeming with canon LGBT characters).
