And fandom seems to be all about the enemies getting together. I've seen it in every fandom I've been in. The two characters who are the most antagonist will almost invariably be the biggest ship, het or slash. (Femslash doesn't seem to work quite the same way IMHO)

I am very much a fan of antagonistic relationships myself. I like a clash of personalities/attitudes/ideals, up to a certain point, anyway. And, yeah, it does seem like antagonistic ships often get a lot of attention.
