Yay for you being one of the majority of people that assumes people are straight. Of course, for us billion not straight people out there, that really can make daily life awkward at best, but more often just depressing.

I mean, honestly, nothing wrong with having a head!canon that characters are straight. But unless it's canon - described definitely and clearly in either the show or word of God - they are not canon straight.

And yes, could be bi.

Or even gay.

Such is life.

I don't get how much resistance there is on these threads against being open to the possibility that anyone you encounter, fictional or otherwise, has a not-minimal chance of being bisexual. This "minority" is not all that tiny, after all.

I think there's a difference between assuming about TV characters and assuming about people irl though, which is something that a lot of people are conflating in this thread.

I'm queer myself and I never assume anything about real life people's romantic and/or sexual orientation. On the other hand, I do tend to assume that TV characters are straight because the proportion of queer characters in TV shows is far smaller than that of real life.

Most TV shows don't even have one explicitly queer character in it. It's usually pretty safe to assume that a TV character is straight because in almost all cases you will end up being right. In real life there's a significantly bigger chance that you'd be wrong.
