(Anonymous) 2013-10-14 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)The plot was definitely quite good, though.
Re: Recs for Good Sherlock Holmes novels?
There is barely any plot and the main villain is obvious, although this may have been intentional for "symbolic" reasons. I've heard that later books have better plots and worldbuilding.
Re: Recs for Good Sherlock Holmes novels?
D:<
Excuse me while I go strangle the author of this book with my bare hands for that passage.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-15 08:25 am (UTC)(link)"Sherlock says things like "I work alone. I always have. Even when Watson was with me, he functioned purely as another pair of hands, not in anything resembling partnership."
Whaaaa? That is totally OOC. ACD's Holmes states "I am lost without him", in reference to Watson. Those are the exact words. He can be arrogant and rude, for sure, but anyone who thinks that Watson is just an unimportant or incidental part of those stories is really missing the point.
This novel sure sounds like a Mary Sue.
