Seizure anon (tw for medical stuff)

(Anonymous) 2013-10-15 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hey guys, it's that anon who has seizures again-- I'm here for a bit more advice, please?

It's kind of complicated: my doctor told me that if I have a seizure again I should call 911 and/or call her.

I think I may have had an absence seizure during a really long car ride. My eyelids started twitching, then my eyes rolled back in my head, and the corners of my mouth were spasming, and while I could hear the person making noise next to me-- i.e. talking-- I couldn't understand her words at all. I couldn't open my eyes until the twitching stopped.

I think it may have lasted 5 to 15 seconds, tops. I wasn't tired when it was done, just a little confused. I think there may have been some weird triggers on the road, like the pattern of the slats on the metal guardrails flashing by, and some flashing lights on police cars, that set it off, if it was a seizure at all.

So the thing is, if it was a seizure, it was not a big one. I'm not loopy or anything. I have a neurologists appointment for the end of October. With the fact that it was a small seizure, should I go get checked out with my regular doctor anyway? Would it be okay if I just made a note of it, and let the neurologist know?

I dunno, guys. D: I'm getting tired of my body trolling me. Now I have a drilling headache on the side of my head where the twitching started. I have no fucking idea if this is just my body trolling me more, or if that's a symptom of a seizure.

I am not used to this. Any kind of advice would be appreciated.

(Sorry for posting this again; I was kind of out of it, and didn't notice the date from before...)

Call your doctor and ask. I don't know if it was an absence seizure (the ones I experienced were not like that at all, but I don't know if there are different categories of absence seizures) but it was definitely something so give the doc a call.

I know it's tiring and a pain in the ass, but you don't want to mess around with this stuff. Good luck.

Call your doctor, s/he can give you a better idea of your next step, and s/he needs to know what's going on with you.

This is not your body 'trolling' you. This is a disorder that you have, that is *part* of you, like curly hair or long toes or moles. Accept that and move onto the 'diagnose and manage' stage, because continually trying to pretend it's no big deal, ignore it, don't take it seriously and brush it off is *not a good thing*.

You don't have to dwell, or angst, or join a support group, but you *do* have to be smart about it, responsible about it, and DEAL WITH IT.

So, call your doctor.
*hugs*

Call your doctor. Even smallish seizures are something she needs to know about, because it's not insignificant to your diagnosis.

If you remember it, it wasn't an absence seizure, but it definitely sounds like a minor seizure of some kind -- it sounds quite like the minor seizures my mother, sister, and I have.

I'd say give your doctor a call to let her know it happened, so she has as much info as possible about what's happening.
