Never read this one - out of curiosity, how similar was it to the episode where House faked cancer? Was that an intentional parallel?

Like most things in "House" it was a really blatant parallel. But without the ultimate goal of catching an evil villain and making the world a better place, because Holmes is very capable of dickishness, while House is nothing but a dick.
